Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of an online spam filter?
- Bandwidth/Traffic Saving - Spamoo helps you clean up spam emails before they are downloaded to your local mailbox, this means you do not have to pay for the 'bytes' these spams consumed. Even if your bandwidth is free, Spamoo will still cut down the time it takes to download spam emails from the internet to your mailbox.
- Censorship - To some parents, it is risky to download spams with inappropriate contents (text or graphical or a hyperlink) into a family mailbox. Kids are generally curious and less aware of the potential danger and risk of a spam, as a result, it is better off not seeing them at all.
- Update - Sharing an online database means your filter, Spamoo, is always updated by moderators, so you can enjoy the most accurate filtering results. Click here for Spamoo's Philosophy.
- Location - Being an online spam filter, Spamoo is able to provide spam filtering service to almost anyone, anywhere, anytime. Some people might not have a permanent computer to install client-side spam filter, some companies do not allow installation of softwares on employees' workstations. Spamoo solved all these inconveniences.
Why don't key words in my filter seem to work?
Make sure you enabled 'User Defined Filter' Under My Preferences.
What happens if I report a false positive on the Filter Results section?
A copy of the email will be forwarded to you after it has been moved to the SpamReport Centre.
Filtering Exception:
Any emails over 50KB in size will not be processed at this stage.
About Spamoo Filters:
Key words in User Defined Filter are not cached, so if you have too many (we mean TOO MANY) key words there, the filtering speed might be affected. Therefore it is recommended to regularly review key words in this filter and remove outdated words.
